I weighed 110 kilograms

My family and friends were very concerned about my health.

I weighed 110 kilograms

I was getting plenty of exercise, going to the gym and also eating what was regarded as healthy food.

I really didn’t mind being that heavy. When I was loading rubbish into the rubbish skip, I could jump up and down on that rubbish and squash it down really well!

The disadvantages of being that fat were that I could not fit into narrow spaces under buildings or in ceilings when installing wires for audio visual, television and data. In the hi-fi store where I was working, my body did not fit between the rows of loudspeakers, amplifiers and other gear stored there.

Another disadvantage is that the spokes in the wheels of my bicycle tended to break a lot. Nearly every week I was replacing one, two or more spokes.

Keeping my trousers up

My trousers tended to fall down as my waist was wider than my hips. I had to buy bigger clothes as most of what I had were too tight or did not fit me at all.

I decided to lose some weight. I got some diet and exercise advice from a trainer at the gym.

Over the next few months as I followed that advice, I did lose some weight.

However I felt so hungry nearly all the time.
I hated doing all that boring cardio exercise.
I no longer had much energy and my progress in my weight lifting at the gym was decreasing.
Even though I was following the diet and exercise advice, I was now actually gaining weight.

I gave up my weight loss goal when My weight had increased to 120 kilograms.
I chose a different goal.
Instead of aiming to lose weight, I decided to increase my energy, vitality and health.

I started eating as much delicious natural food as I wanted.
I no longer restricted my intake of fats and oils.
Some people were then telling me that I was eating a lot of food.

My weight didn’t change much at first. However my waist measurement steadily decreased.

I now had plenty of vitality and energy. I felt more healthy and was again making good progress at the gym.

80 kg

Over time my weight decreased.

About 18 months later I weighed about 80 kg.

I have remained about that weight since then.

A summary of my progress is:

My weight was 120 kilograms.
My goal was 80 kilograms.
My reason for wanting to lose was because family and friends were very concerned about my health.
The trainer believed that what was standing in the way of me achieving my goal was that I was eating too much food and not exercising enough.

My lack of vitality had caused my energy and health to become more important to me than my weight.

Being a life coach, I have been trained in applying coaching principles. For example looking at where you are now, where you want to be at, why you want that and what you believe is standing in the way.

You also may have the wrong goal like I did.
Struggling to achieve your target and making little progress, or worse still, going the opposite direction.
